Our Future Leaders

We are getting ready to celebrate President's Day on Monday. Students were traced and we made their shadows look just like George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We are having fun trying to figure out our different shadows.

Valentine's Day Party

Delaney and Alex are talking over which Valentine's cards they got!

Reilley and Rylee with their green tongues! Oh.....there was so much sugar! Thank goodness we waited until the end of the day!
Bryon is always curious as to what others get too! He is checking out Joanna's stash too!

DeLanie is happy that she got so many nice Valentine's!

We had so much fun at our Valentine's Day Party. The kids were so excited! The whole day they kept asking, "When is the party Miss Workman?" I loved hearing all the "thank you's" as they opened their cards and candy. We had so much fun!

Reading Workshop

Here is how I make a three-some work. They all sit with their backs to one another and still can somewhat lean against one another and read to themselves.

Devan and Kayleigh are both sitting back to back and reading their independent reading books.
This week students have been working on making predictions as they read. I know!!! Can you believe it? They are 5 and 6! Students look for clues in the pictures and even the Titles of books to make a guess about what the story is about. They do such a great job at saying, "I think.......because.......!" I was amazed. This was a great week in reading!

Way to Go Erin!

Erin has passed all of her Reading Racer words for Kindergarten. She is moving on to First Grade words! Way to go girl!

Kid News

Delaney is the Student of the Day and so she writes the date for the beginning of the Kid News. She also gets to choose the color of marker that we use! Oh the little things that get kids excited!

Daphine is pointing to each word as we read the Kid News.

Payton is circling a word with a wiki stick. These words often become the words that students circle in their homework.

This shows the students which News Team is sharing today. The students then know that they need to think of an idea to share with the class. They also sit more towards the front of our group at the carpet.

Kid News is a great way for students to learn how to write and read words. We have done this every day in Kindergarten and kids love it when it is their turn to be on the news team. Students each write their own news for the day and many of them are writing the sentence completely on their own now. The Kid News then goes home as homework and students have to find words, fill in missing blanks and circle letters and numbers.

Bear Day

We finally got to have our bear day on Monday, February 2nd. Last week we studied the letter Bb and so we decided to celebrate by bringing our bears to school! The kids had a great time reading with their bears, coloring with their bears, and resting with their bears.
